My album "Study Hour" is out now...

"If you're just joining us now, you're tuned into the Study Hour here on 98.3, where I've got all the best tunes for your late night study sesh . . . College can be a drag but the late nights don't have to be."

Allow me to be your disc-jockey through songs of faith, uncertainty, anxiety, love, and loss.  In short, let me describe my life post-college and pre-adulthood.

Inspired by the music of Thelonius Monk, Erykah Badu, J Dilla, Jimi Hendrix, and Aldous Harding.

Evening Prayer

2020 EP written, recorded, and released in Quarantine

I finished my last semester of undergrad online after the pandemic hit, and when I attended my virtual graduation from my living room, I was angry: "Will I ever experience graduation in-person? Will my friends be around for it? Will I ever see my friends again? Will we survive the pandemic?  Why didn’t I prioritize hanging out with my friends when I had the chance? Why didn’t I let loose more? Why didn’t I make a move? How could it all end like this?!" And the biggest source of my anger, the greatest offender . . . "Why is this happening to me?"

So, I wrote this EP to help move through my anger and all the questions.  Although my knee-jerk reaction was to distract myself from the anger and the uncertainty, I tried to listen to, honor, and capture my feelings with these songs.

Thank you for listening and I hope my songs give you some comfort amidst all the uncertainty.

]ulia Marcus is a versatile, inventive singer.  Her voice has been described as sounding like a “velvet Hayley Williams” and her music has been described as “soulful popfolk."  She released her first ever EP “Evening Prayer” on Spotify in 2020 which featured five songs all written, recorded, and produced by herself in quarantine.

Her love of music spans genres. She studied Opera at Carnegie Mellon University for her undergrad degree and made her operatic debut in 2018 as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro.  She then went on to perform in Svadba, a contemporary, serbian, a capella opera in 2019. In 2021 she made her musical theater debut at the Longy School of Music in 35mm: A Musical Exhibition, and in September of 2022 Julia performed as Claire in Longy’s production of Ordinary Days.  Regardless of genre, Julia’s mission is to perform music that uplifts, transforms, and heals.
